International Interns in Study Abroad This Summer

Benjamin Aranda Caro (l) and Adrián Yarce Román (r)

Sorry to everyone who didn’t visit the Study Abroad Office in June as you missed getting to meet our two GREAT interns working in the office this summer.  Benjamin Aranda Caro and Adrián Yarce Román provided exceptional assistance in not only our day-to-day needs like taking passport photos but also preparing the office for the upcoming school year.  With our anticipated move back into the Student Union this coming fall, there was much to do to start preparing for that big event!

When asked about his experience at OSU, Adrián, an engineering student from Puebla, Mexico, talks about how much he liked working in the Study Abroad Office and meeting so many really friendly and helpful members of the OSU campus community.  He observed how different the campus environment is in Oklahoma than in Mexico.  With so much here on campus there was always something to do, and he never missed a pick-up game of soccer or a chance to see new things.  Including tours of T. Boone Pickens Stadium, Gallagher-Iba Arena, and the Kicker facility here in Stillwater, one of Adrián’s favorite opportunities was, “Meeting fellow students.  While some summer days got a bit quiet in the basement of the Classroom Building, it was always great when more students came in!”   Adrián also confesses that he “loved” Eskimo Joe’s!

Benjamin is currently working on his master’s degree in financial law at Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua in Mexico.  He is also an accomplished musician, though we never quite got him convinced to share his mastery of the guitar with us in the office.  Meeting people from all around the world and working on his language skills are the “official” highlights during Benjamin’s time in Stillwater.  However, the win of the Mexico men’s football team over the United States in the Gold Cup Final was a cause for celebration for this soccer fan!  As a first time visitor to Stillwater, Benjamin thought Oklahoma State University was a great place to study and his internship was, “everything I thought it would be and more!”

We thank Benjamin and Adrián for all the help this summer and for the fond memories they leave behind.  Laughter is good for the soul and we certainly had our fair share this summer!  We look forward to seeing both back in Stillwater hopefully sooner than later.
